ECOGAS
The use of biomass as renewable primary energy resource
could be enhanced considerably in Switzerland and
Europe and contribute to the stabilization
of anthropogenic CO2 Emissions. Thermal gasification
processes are the key to efficient conversion of biomass to transportation fuels
or for power production. One of the central problems in thermal biomass gasification
is the elimination of contaminants and side products (tars, particles, hetero-atoms),
which interfere with down-stream processes. PSI’s Ecogas project explores options
for converting biomass-derived gas to either grid compatible synthetic natural
gas (bio-SNG), or to heat and power via high temperature fuel cells.
